Cam Wilson was born in Palo Alto, CA, but has lived in San Francisco for almost thirty years. He splits his time between a ranch in Santa Rosa, where he does the torch work, and three levels of a crumbling San Francisco Victorian, where he assembles his All Fours albums.
Cam has a BA in video art from the California College of Art. Some of his first works were large metal sculptures made of old Cadillacs. His current work developed after working with a jeweler and practicing with new tools and materials.
When he started making albums, Cam salvaged metal from a scrap yard. Now he buys copper by the half-ton from a distributor. He uses recycled motorcycle inner tubes for the hinges. The covers of the albums are finished with a patina coating, which is the process of using a torch to produce a film on the metal through oxidation, creating a weathered look.
