Blueswood Art

Casey Lipe

Blues musician Casey Lipe and his studio of workers at Blueswood Art reclaim the wood from outdated structures throughout the cotton and soybean fields of the Mississippi Delta. Coming from barns and tenant houses, the cypress, poplar, red oak and tupelo gum woods are sixty to one hundred years old.

The Process All pieces are handmade in Mississippi by local craftsmen. The edges are run on a joiner and glued together using the biscuit technique. The drawers are solid wood, joined with a half-inch dovetail technique. All pegs have a glued joint and a coarse thread screw or bolt underneath.

Each piece is hand-sanded and finished with a satin finish Tung oil and urethane blend. Local artist hand apply, never spray, the bottom coat and three topcoats. Blueswood Art pieces are finished with solid brass knobs and hand-wrought iron drawer pulls.
