I consider myself a traditional woodworker in that I emphasize joinery and fine finish, but I have a non-traditional appreciation for form and shape. The tops of my boxes are inspired by roadside imagery. I notice things such as ski slope moguls, well chewed pasture land, hillside cuts of superhighway exits and topographical features like the meandering deep scallops that creeks make. I started out making children's furniture, particularly toy chests and table and chair sets. That led me to develop and build outdoor play structures, in which the idea of play got translated into what is really a large three-dimensional sculptural installation. Then one day I happened to attend a craft show - that was what led to what I am doing today.
