Frank Stofan
Frank Stofan began his pottery making education in 1981. While completing undergraduate studies
at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, he interned at the Campbell Pottery. In 1986, he took the position of Master Potter
at Westerwald Pottery located in Scenery Hill, PA. Frank's studio opened in 1998, where he has been developing a unique line
of ash glazed ware suited for everyday use and the collector's table.
The clay used is fine, white stoneware, very smooth to the touch. Each piece is hand-thrown on the potters wheel,
signed, glazed, and fired to 2300 degrees. Sizes may vary slightly.
The wood ash glaze is formulated with ashes recycled from the wood stoves of neighbors in the community.
The ashes help melt the other elements in the glaze and create the tree-like effect.
