Libby and Jim Mijanovich

Mija is a family business based in the mountains of western North Carolina and is founded on a philosophy of using the Earth's resources conscientiously. Looking for a way to blend art with their environmental convictions, Libby and Jim were led to a process where they recycle vintage cotton shirts to create beautiful one-of-a-kind quilted fabric art. Libby's gift for color blending and Jim's eye for design often result in the appearance of radiant light accompanied by subtle shading of color and value. Each piece is quilted using metallic threads in patterns to accentuate and complement its individual character, then is named, dated and signed using a shirt pocket as a label.
