My work tends to travel along a path that springs from my unconscious. I don't always know where it will lead me until I get there.
The pieces have been individually thrown with white stoneware. When dry, they are covered with a black slip. I layer white slip onto the area where the images will be etched, then fill in the outline with black and gray slips and etch the patterning. A red glaze is added around the drawing, and then high fired in an oxidation atmosphere. A second low fire gives the work its satin finish. The glazes are food safe, and the finished piece is highly durable, particularly chip resistant.
