Sarris Quilts Melissa Sarris
Color is my first inspiration. Music and the surrounding countryside become sources for my designs. I also enjoy reinterpreting all sorts of scientific concepts as metaphors for visual ideas.
I use mostly hand-dyed cotton fabrics. The dying process creates a visual texture to the fabric and makes the color choices nearly unlimited. I employ a style of cutting, sewing,
and re-cutting the fabric - repeated many times until I have the desired shape and design. I finish my works with intricate hand-quilting.
I enthusiastically try to create work that is beautiful, well crafted, and may be touched and enjoyed everyday.
