Alwin Wagener

After graduating with a BA in philosophy from the University of North Carolina, Alwin Wagener started his blacksmithing training with Dan Howachyn of Black Mountain Ironworks in 1998. As Howachyn s apprentice, Alwin studied decorative ironwork in a practical environment for four years.

Since establishing his own forge, Alwin has focused on imagery from nature and mythology. He has served as resident blacksmith at Warren Wilson College since 2003 and has demonstrated at festivals and craft shows throughout the region.
