Artist Statement
There is an amazing diversity of experience when one is working as a potter; I am designer, craftsman, chemist, marketing executive, CEO, and photographer, to boot.

While remaining open to the possibility for evolution in my way of thinking and making, I am for now a firm believer in function. I love being the person who made someone's very favorite mug, or the vase they will enjoy even without flowers. Bright colors on pure white porcelain are where I have found my voice in clay.

My patterns are inspired by nature, but even more so by other patterns, on wallpapers and fabrics, for instance. I am also influenced by different eras, from the Arts and Crafts movement to the more recent Mod style. The tropical motifs were first created for a customer in Florida to match her kitchen. The color that I created for her is called "Connie's Pink". So I am very much influenced by my customers and their vision as well.

I believe that life is to be enjoyed and that the objects we bring into our homes and use everyday should reflect that joy in being.

The Process
First, the pieces are thrown on the wheel, either from white stoneware or porcelain. Any trimming is done, and attachments such as handles made, when the piece is "leather-hard". The colored slips are also applied at this stage. When the slips dry a little, Amanda draws through the slip down to the clay underneath.

The excess slip is carved away. The piece is fired to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, then coated in a clear glaze and fired again to 2380 degrees.
