The artists at Renaissance Glass Studio have been working with glass since the mid 1970’s. They have developed a line of fused glass jewelry using dichroic glass, made with vaporized metal oxides. The colors in the glass are produced from the light being bent in a prism effect, exactly like what occurs in rainbows and dragonfly wings. This phenomena accounts for the unusual brilliance of the glass. Their process involves using many layers of thin glass fired at precise temperatures in a kiln four or five times to achieve just the right effect. The glass is then cut, shaped, and polished into finished pieces by hand.
