ARTIST STATEMENT

Kaaren Stoner spends a lot of time outdoors observing the intricacy of detail in the veining of leaves, the structure of flowers, the lines composed by tree branches against the sky. The colors that attract her are those of the earth. The pieces that she forms, and which often seem to form themselves, are a spiritual, meditative act for her. Kaaren gets lost in manipulating clay, helping it to take various forms, using the shapes nature provides for guidance. She demonstrates that beauty is all around us, that all we have to do is look and see. Her wellspring of inspiration, through 43 years of clay work, has been nature and her endless fascination with the beauty of leaves, grasses, flowers, trees, rocks and landscapes.
